The journal contains poetry and short stories written by undergraduate students. Students are encouraged to sumit their contributions in their first language or mother tongue with an English translation.
https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3262UWC art and identity project, 20252025-12-10T11:39:58+00:00Fran Saundersopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
The 10-week Art & Identity extracurricular workshops I offered on Saturdays on campus over the second semester, 2025, were a response to the vision of your rector, Professor Robert Balfour (UWC Vice Chancellor) – himself an artist and poet and aware of the cognitive and personal benefits of arts-based education.
A group of 16 participants were drawn from 113 responses to an open advertisement offering free participation in this initiative. The selection was made on a first-come-firstserve basis, and the workshops were to be held on Saturday mornings. The students represented diverse disciplines: Law, Linguistics, Natural Sciences, Economics and Management Sciences, Arts and Humanities and Linguistics. Very few of these students had been exposed to art education; some had never before picked up a brush to paint.
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3250Blessings in disguise2025-12-08T12:55:59+00:00Lutan Griffithsopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Blessings in disguise
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lutan Griffithshttps://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3272Blue lightning flower2025-12-12T09:43:50+00:00Lutan Griffithsopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Blue lightning flower
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3286Untitled2025-12-15T09:20:14+00:00Mathapelo Khwinanaopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Cover art
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3273Untitled2025-12-12T09:52:15+00:00Mathapelo Khwinanaopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Untitled line drawing
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3276Two figures2025-12-12T10:06:55+00:00Mathapelo Khwinanaopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Two figures
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3274Circles2025-12-12T09:56:35+00:00Siphosethu Dyanopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Circles
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3275African myth2025-12-12T10:02:10+00:00Siphosethu Dyanopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
African myth, colage
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3217Editorial2025-12-04T11:47:51+00:00Nosipho Gxekwaopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.zaTando Kekeopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
editorial
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3227Kasi Tours2025-12-04T12:30:54+00:00Ntsako Lynopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Ntsako Lynhttps://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3228Reflection of an African Household2025-12-04T12:32:24+00:00Lesego Kgatlaopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Reflection of an African Household
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3229Miseducation of a Gen Z2025-12-04T12:33:56+00:00Omphemetse Matlouopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Miseducation of a Gen Z
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3230Ahmad and the fishing net2025-12-04T12:35:33+00:00Lee Ann Williamsopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Lee-Ann Williams - Arts and Humanities, English Literature Department. In recent memory, South African singer Tyla’s identity was thoroughly scrutinized by the chronically online Americans; sparking contentious debate once again. At its essence; a divide exists, one group sees the term as racially prejudiced due to their historical relationship with it, while coloured South Africans proudly claim it as their identity, heritage, and culture. My orientation is simple; this is who I am and I am proud of it. The context of a word determines its meaning-and neither I, nor my experiences will be erased by people unable to conceptualize the importance of context.
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3232 International Day of Peace Open Mic and Dialogue2025-12-04T12:42:19+00:00Oluwaseyi Agboolaopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
International Day of Peace Open Mic and Dialogue
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3233Senzani Na?2025-12-04T12:43:32+00:00Miriam Tandiwanashe Mukonza openmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
Senzani Na?
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Miriam Tandiwanashe Mukonza https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3270The Culture of Peace2025-12-11T12:36:59+00:00Oluwaseyi Agboolaopenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
The Culture of Peace
2025-12-15T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.epubs.ac.za/index.php/omcwj/article/view/3247Editorial team2025-12-08T09:42:18+00:00Mische Mulleropenmicjournal@uwc.ac.za
The editorial team consists of a group of students who have worked tirelessly to help develop the journal.
