About the Journal

The African Human Mobility Review (AHMR) is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing scholarly understanding of all dimensions—socio-economic, political, legislative, and developmental—of human mobility across the African continent. Jointly published by the Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Africa (SIHMA) and the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the journal aims to disseminate evidence-based research that directly informs rights-respecting migration policies and safeguards the dignity of migrants, asylum-seekers, and refugees. As an interdisciplinary forum, AHMR welcomes original theoretical and empirical research, policy analyses, and critical commentaries spanning sociology, law, political science, and development studies. To maintain high analytical standards and preserve the deeply human context of mobility on the continent, the journal strictly prioritizes research that centers on human narratives, localized field data, structural policy critiques, and rigorous qualitative or integrated mixed-methods frameworks.

The AHMR journal is also accredited by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)
