About the Journal

NEW AGENDA is an Open Access, peer-reviewed journal and is accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The journal’s focus encompasses South African, African and international developments in social and economic research and policy. It aims to provide high-quality pertinent information and analysis for stakeholders in government, academia and civil society. 

New Agenda is the flagship publication of the Institute for African Alternatives (IFAA). IFAA is dedicated to promoting economic transformation, non-racialism, anti-racism and gender equality, continental solidarity and African self-reliance, and youth participation in political and social discourse.

Call for Papers for publication in a special issue of New Agenda: South African Journal of Social and Economic Policy

Living Landscapes: Nature, Conservation and Rural Livelihoods in the Karoo

Please submit an extended abstract of 300 to 500 words, a working title, and a short author biography (up to 100 words) to sborchardt@sun.ac.za by 29 January 2027.

Authors of selected abstracts will be notified by 19 February 2027 and invited to submit a full manuscript by 13 August 2027.

Articles should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words, and written in a style that is accessible, engaging, and suitable for a broader audience.
